Vicki Cormie, University of St Andrews, UK
Vicki Cormie, Academic Liaison Librarian (Science & Medicine), University of St Andrews, UK.
Q: How long have you worked in your current job?
A: I have now been in this job (Academic Liaison Librarian for Science and Medicine) for nearly two years.
Q: Which fictional character would you most like to be?
A: Probably a female detective. I like Miss Marple's understated style and her travelling but certainly don't feel that old (well not most days!). So I will choose Kate Fansler from the Amanda Cross stories as I love the academic background to the plots.
Q: What are you most afraid of?
A: Heights! Put me on top of a ladder and I am nervous wreck.
Q: Name one place that you would like to go back to?
A: The Outer Hebrides. I could never tire of visiting there; it is my idea of heaven on earth.
Q: What is the last film you watched?
A: Juno. I loved the music.
Q: How do you like to relax after work?
A: Photography - I am an avid amateur photographer and when I am not out taking pictures I am on flickr.com or at a photographic society event.
Q: Can you highlight three qualities of your institution?
A:
Its history - we are the third oldest university in the UK and the oldest university in Scotland and you really feel part of a long tradition of academia walking around the town. We are small and caring - I feel a real sense of family and community in the university that I have not found anywhere else I have worked. The research - there is so much exciting work going on and it is great to be part of it, I love talking to researchers about their work.
